Kayaking:

Sit on Top KayaksWelcome to a wonderful place to kayak. For the beginner, protected but beautiful green waters surround our island. For the more adventurous, four outlying islands offer safe and beautiful places to explore. Wind and wave conditions vary. We have an afternoon westerly on hot days, and on cloudy days tide currents and weather conditions can be anything from extremely safe to dangerous. The waters around our island are usually very safe. If using one of our "sit on top" kayaks, a waiver must be signed. You are welcome to bring your own kayak, of course.

For other kayaking opportunities in the Nootka Sound area please see the Moutcha Bay web site at: www.moutchabay.com.

Diving:

Diving in this area is excellent. The waters are reasonably shallow with a great deal of sea life. Tahtsa Diving in Tahsis can provide you with air and equipment rentals. Please contact them at dive@tahtsadivecharters.com or visit their web site: www.tahtsadivecharters.com

Excursions:

Catala IslandWe offer excursions to Catala Island and Owossitsa Lake (Flynn's Cove)(www.nootka.ca). In good weather conditions we can take the motorsailer to Benson Point, Louie Bay or Mary's Basin. Salmon fishing in the area is excellent. Catala is a marine park and has a wonderful long gravel beach with swells, cliffs with tidal pools, and nice places to relax and have lunch. Whales often cruise through the narrow channel on the south side. The views to the south are stunning. Benson Point has a beautiful sandy beach and small waterfall. Louie Bay has some interesting "metal relics" that look like surreal sculpture. We can land and walk to the old army lookout, or explore the beaches.

Boating and Hiking

Some of our small craftKayak trips and proper weather go together! We have one double and three single “no roll” kayaks. They are very stable and user friendly. A kayak trip around the island or to the beautiful “Grassy Knoll” is suitable for children or beginners. Hot summer weather often brings afternoon winds that can restrict beginning kayakers to the immediate island area. Cloudy weather often comes with calm waters perfect for kayaking to outlying islands. Our guests enjoy kayaking all year round. We have a network of trails on the island, but only some trials are available to guests (orientation provided). Please respect private property. Sea Watch has a private trail leading to a small and often very sunny meadow perfect for picknicking. The network of trails in the park connecting one area to another offer a variety of hiking challenges. Two nearby islands can be circumnavigated at low tide.
